Mrs. Amal Fikry
(Chairman of the Music Institute Committee)
Mrs. Amal Fikry was born, raised, and completed her education in Cairo. She married Dr. Zaki Hashem, Attorney-at-Law, from whom she has two daughters and a son. Mrs. Fikry also has three grandchildren and one great-grandson. Arabic is her mother tongue, but she is also fluent in English and French.
Al Nour Wal Amal Association is a beneficiary non-profit association founded in 1954 by a group of women volunteers, headed by Mrs Istiklal Radi, the first director of the Association.
It was the first non-governmental association in the Middle East to help vissually impaired girls and women and provide them with vocational training with the aim of re-integrating them into society.
Al Nour Wal Amal Orchestra emerged from the music institute, as being one the world’s most unique orchestras, as it is totally composed of blind females of all ages, from school children to university students and graduates of various levels of music education.
Performers learn to play their roles individually and they recieve training twice a week as a team in the chamber orchestra. They play western classical music in addition to the modern eastern music. The orchestra includes all four types of musical instruments: strings,woodwind,brass and percussion.
